The Delhi government has decided to impose a penalty of 55 crore rupees on a private firm for the delay in execution of the Barapullah elevated road in the national capital which was a key Commonwealth Games infrastructure project. Delhi PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan who visited the construction site of the road, said the penalty is being imposed on the contractor as construction of the two slip roads connecting the elevated road is yet to be completed despite extending the deadline several times. He said, that the penalty will be 10 per cent of the total project cost of 550 crore rupees. The four-km-long corridor, the first such stretch in the city was constructed to ferry athletes and CWG officials between the Games Village and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October last year.
