Delhi Govt convenes high-level meeting to review flood situation

An emergency high-level meeting was convened in New Delhi today by Delhi Government to review the flood situation in as the water level in Yamuna river reached 205.73 meters this evening.Though there is no flood scare at present in the city,Delhi PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan told newspersons that for the first time so much water has been discharged at once in the Yamuna river from Hathini Kund barrage in Haryana. In total, 7.44 lakh cusecs of water has already been released from Haryana till 0500 hrs today into the river and it is going further uninterruptedly. The Central Water Commission has predicted that the water level is likely to reach 206.40 metres till 5 pm tomorrow. The minister However, assured that the Delhi government has made adequate arrangements if any flood-like situation arises in Yamuna bank or nearby low-lying areas. The Minister has appealed to the people staying in low-lying areas to vacate the places and take shelter on higher places. Meanwhile rain continued to lash the national Capital for the second consecutive day today. This lead to water logging and traffic jams at many places. The weather, which was cool and pleasant yesterday following incessant showers, turned slightly humid with the Capital recording 9 mm of rainfall in the last 12 hours. According to the weatherman, more spells of rains may occur in the next 24 hours.
