Delhi girl rape accused arrested in Bihar, PM directs authorities to provide appropriate medical care to child

Manoj kumar allegedly involved in the rape of the five-year-old girl in Delhi has been arrested in Bihar.

AIR correspondent Diwakar Kumar quoting police sources reports that Manoj Kumar was apprehended from Chiknouta, in his in-law's village in Muzaffarpur District early this morning.

The 25 year old youth was arrested by a team from Delhi police with the help of local police. He will be produced CJM Court in Muzaffarpur at 10am today.

The five year-old child in Delhi is now fighting for her life in hospital. The horrific incident took place in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar.

The girl, who was missing from April 15 evening, was rescued on April 17 from the ground floor of the building where her family was staying.

The victim, who the doctors claimed was undernourished and weighing just 20 kg, was shifted to AIIMS from Swami Dayanand Hospital for better treatment. She underwent a surgery at the Swami Dayanand hospital for removing foreign objects from her body.

The Prime Minister has been deeply disturbed to hear news of the shameful incident. A press release said, Dr. Manmohan Singh has also seen news visuals of the completely unacceptable treatment meted out by police officers to some women protesting against this incident.

The release said Dr.Singh has spoken to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and has conveyed to him the need for the strictest possible action to be taken against the erring officials and called for appropriate medical care for the young victim of the sexual assault.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has sought a report from Delhi Police in connection with the rape of a minor girl.

Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has suspended Assistant Commissioner of Police Bani Singh Ahlawat with immediate effect for hitting a woman protester outside the hospital.

DCP, East Prabhakar said that SHO Dharampal Singh and sub-inspector Mahavir Singh, who were the first investigating officers, were placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty pending an inquiry. The family of the minor girl also alleged that Police had offered them two thousand rupees to hush up the case and they made insensitive remarks.

Reacting over the incident, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj has expressed concern over the rape of the minor girl.

On the social networking site twitter, She said that she had thought that after 16th December rape incident in the city, things will change but it is unfortunate, the situation has worsened.
