Delhi gangrape: Share anguish & anger of country: PM & Cong Prez

Congress President Sonia Gandhi today stressed that no time should be lost in bringing perpetrators of the barbaric gangrape to justice while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured that the guilty will not be spared.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 127th Foundation Day of Congress at AICC headquarters in New Delhi, both Mrs. Gandhi and Dr. Singh said they shared the anguish and the anger of the country over the December 16 incident.
Mrs. Gandhi said, all thoughts are with the young woman, who is fighting for her life after the barbarous attack on her.

After hoisting the party flag at 24 Akbar Road, she said, the only wish today is that the victim recovers and comes back to us and that no time is lost in bringing the perpetrators of such barbarous act to justice. Prime minister Manmohan Singh asssured that the UPA government is committed to bringing the guilty to justice as soon as possible.

Party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders were also among those who participated in the commemorative function held at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. Several functions were also held at the Congress offices in the states.

Our correspondent reports, the Indian National Congress was founded on this day in 1885 by Englishman Allan Octavio Hume, a noted ornithologist and a civil servant in British India.
