Delhi gang rape victim's condition critical at S'pore hospital; Fresh protests in capital over the incident

The condition of the 23-year-old Delhi gang-rape victim remains critical even though she was admitted to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital's intensive care unit in Singapore. She was air-lifted from Delhi in an Ambulance helicopter and admitted in extremely critical condition this morning at the Singapore hospital.

A hospital spokesperson said, a team of experts have been deputed to suggest medical care of the victim. The Indian High Commission in Singapore said,it will extend all help to the victim.

AIR correspondent reports, the decision to shift the girl was taken at the highest level of the government. On December 16th, the girl was gang-raped and brutally assaulted in a moving bus and was undergoing treatment at Safdarganj hospital in Delhi. The girl, battling for life for the past 10 days , remained on ventilator support during most part of her treatment in Delhi.

Doctors in India had removed major part of the victim's intestine and advised air-lifting her to Singapore hospital because of the specialised treatment that the institution offers for patients who need multi-organ transplant.

Scores of people today marched towards India Gate from south Delhi demanding better safety and security against the backdrop of the gang-rape and brutal assault of a young girl in a moving bus 11 days ago.

Around 500 people, including girls, marched from Nizamuddin in south Delhi to India Gate but were stopped at a nearby crossing leading to traffic blockade. The protest march came amid prohibitory orders placed in and around India Gate
