Delhi gang rape: New Year party plans dropped, toned down

In the back drop of death of the Delhi gang rape victim, several State Governments, Business Houses, Clubs and Hotels have either cancelled or toned down their new year eve celebrations. Punjab and Haryana Governments have cancelled their planned programmes while Rajasthan Chief Minister has decided to stay away from new year celebrations.

Several clubs including the Press Club of India have cancelled the new year celebrations. Five star hotels in Delhi and Mumbai have reported at least 15 to 20 per cent drop in new year eve celebration bookings.

The Defence Ministry and the three Armed Forces have decided against organising new year parties. The Army, the Navy and the Air Force have issued advisories to their formations in this regard.

Army Chief General Vikram Singh and his wife Bubbles Singh would distribute sweets to the patients at the Army Research and Referral Hospital and Base Hospital in New Delhi on the new year day tomorrow.
