Delhi gang rape case: Sixth accused declared Juvenile

An accused in the Delhi gang rape case who claimed to be less than 18 years of age was declared a minor on Monday by a juvenile board hearing his case. The juvenile is one of the six men accused of brutally assaulting a physiotherapy student on a bus in south Delhi on the night of December 16th. The woman, who was also assaulted with an iron rod, died of massive internal injuries 13 days after the attack, prompting widespread public demands for India to introduce the death penalty for rapists.

The juvenile, who claims to be 17, was allegedly the most brutal of the attackers but cannot be given the death penalty or life term in prison. According to his school certificate, his birth date is June 4, 1995.

The law may bestow leniency on him but according to the Delhi Police, the juvenile was the most brutal of them all.
