Delhi court takes cognisance of gangrape charge sheet

A Delhi court has taken cognisance of the charge sheet filed by police in the gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student. The incident took place in the capital on the 16th of last month and the victim died in a Singapore hospital 13 days later.

Metropolitan Magistrate Namrita Aggarwal took cognisance of the charge-sheet today saying a case of various offences including those of murder and gangrape are made out against the accused. The court asked Delhi police to produce all the five accused – Ram Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur – on Monday.

She said Prima facie offence have been made out under sections for murder, attempt to murder, gangrape, unnatural offences, dacoity, destruction of evidence, conspiracy and other offences. The offences carry death
penalty as the maximum punishment.
