Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked the Home Ministry to withdraw its order directing the city government to take prior approval before passage
of any bill in the Assembly. The Ministry had passed the order in 2002.
Talking to a news agency in Delhi Kejriwal said he has written to the Home Ministry over the issue. He asserted that the city government cannot follow these rules.
On the Jan Lokpal Bill, the Chief Minister threatened to go to any extent over the anti-graft legislation. He said, both Congress and BJP will never allow passage of the bill as both the parties are apprehensive of action against their leaders in corruption cases.
Last week, Delhi Cabinet cleared the draft Jan Lokpal bill which provides for covering all public servants from chief minister to Group D employees and seeks life term as maximum punishment for those found guilty of corruption. AIR correspondent reports, the city government intends to pass it at a special session of the Delhi Assembly to be held at Indira Gandhi stadium.
