The Home Minister has assured that action will be taken against policemen found to be guilty of trying to hush up the rape case of a five-year-old girl in Delhi. The policemen reportedly offered money to the victim's parents to hush up the case.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Sushilkumar Shinde said an enquiry is on to find out if there was any lapse on the part of police in the case. He said the accused in the rape case has been arrested from Bihar. Terming the incident as very serious, he said everyone has to be alert to check such crimes.
Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has expressed deep sadness and outrage at the brutal rape of a five-year old child in Delhi. He said there is a need to collectively work towards urgently changing the regressive mindset towards women.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also sent out a tough message to authorities that action and not words are necessary to stop recurrence of sexual assaults on women. Reacting to the horrible incident, she emphasised on the need for creating awareness among citizens to stop such incidents. She said the crimes of this kind can be stopped only when each and every citizen of the country is alert and aware.
There were protests at different places in the capital against the brutal child rape. Protesters also vent their anger over the incident outside All India Institute of Medical Sciences where the girl is being treated and before the Home Minister's residence. Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the victim.
As reported, the 25-year-old youth Manoj Kumar allegedly involved in the rape of the child has been given transit remand to Delhi police by a Chief Judicial Magistrate court of Muzaffarpur. He was arrested earlier from his in-laws' village Chiknota in Muzaffarpur district early on Saturday morning by a team from Delhi with the help of local police. Police sources said, the accused was traced after tracking his mobile phone location. He is now being brought to Delhi.
The latest medical bulletin of the victim says the child is stable, alert and conscious. Medical superintendent of All India Institute of Medical Sciences D K Sharma said, the girl’s basic health parameters are within normal limits and is under close observation. He said an eight-member medical team has been constituted to attend to the girl.
