Delhi today rolled out the ambitious Food Security programme today. The scheme was launched by UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi at a function this afternoon.
The identified beneficiaries will get highly subsidised foodgrains from the 1st of next month. Initially, 32 lakh people of vulnerable sections will be covered and later around 73 lakh people will be brought under its ambit.
Eligible households will get rice at 3 rupees, wheat at 2 rupees and coarse cereals one rupee per kilogram. Households under Antyodaya Anna Yojna category will be entitled for 35 kilograms of foodgrains per month, while the BPL, Jhuggi and Resettlement Colony Ration Card holders will get 5 kilograms of foodgrains per person per month.
Eldest woman in every eligible household will be treated as head of the family for entitlements.
Haryana and Uttarakhand have rolled out the ambitious Food Security programme today. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda launched the Food Security programme at Panipat, whereas other Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries launched the scheme in their respective constituencies.
In Uttarakhand, the Centre-Sponsored Food Security Scheme has been launched by the State Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna in Dehradun. The Scheme has been inaugurated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajeev Gahdhi.
AIR correspondent reports that the Scheme will be implemented in the entire State from 2nd September.
Also, Arunachal Pradesh launched Food security programme today on the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.
Launching the programme at a function in Itanagar, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said that the Centre has decided to cover 66.3 per cent of rural and 51.55 per cent of urban population in the state under the programme.
