A delegation of, 'All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference' called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi today.<br/><br/>Chairman of the Conference Shafiq Mir led the delegation which briefed the Prime Minister on developmental issues concerning the state saying benefits of central assistance have not reached villages due to non-empowerment of the Panchayats. <br/><br/>They urged the Prime Minister to consider extension of the 73rd and 74th amendments of the Constitution to empower the Panchayats to undertake basic development activities in rural areas. <br/><br/>The delegation demanded that elections to panchayats and urban local bodies in the state be held at the earliest. The members also condemned the burning of schools by anti-national elements.<br/><br/>Mr. Modi assured the delegation that Centre will look into their demands stressing that growth and development of the state is high on his agenda. He added that development of villages is vital to the overall economic development of the state.
