A delegation of AIADMK MPs today met Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and requested him to impress upon the Tamil Nadu government to increase its support price for sugarcane to at least 250 rupees per quintal from the current 140.The delegation led by senior party leader M Thambidurai urged the Prime Minister to increase the fair and remunerative price of sugarcane substantially. In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa said that for the state government to dismiss the present situation as a reflection of the national trend and to justify it claiming that an increase in the procurement price would trigger a price spiral was a farcical attempt to shirk responsibility.
