In Maharashtra, at least nine persons were killed in Mumbai-Dehradun Express fire near Dahanu Road railway station in Thane district in the wee hours of today. The train was going from Mumbai towards Dehradun. The incident happened around 2.30 a.m.. The fire broke out in coaches S2, S3 and S4. According to Chief PRO of Western Railway, Mr. Sharat Chandrayan informed that the fire was brought under control around 5.15 a.m. He also informed that all the other passengers have been evacuated and except for the three damaged bogies, rest of the train has left for the destination. Mr. Sharat said that the railways have ordered an inquiry to look into the exact cause of the incident.
Two Accident Relief Medical Trains were also sent from Mumbai and Valsad for carrying the relief and rescue operations.
