Deficient rainfall won't have much impact on rabi production, says Centre

The Centre today said that the deficient rainfall in the country will not have much impact on rabi production. In reply to a question, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh told reporters in New Delhi that 14 per cent rainfall deficiency in the monsoon season did not have much impact on kharif output and crop production in the rabi season too will not be affected much. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that so far the sown area of rabi crops is over 242 lakh hectare. Wheat has been sown in over 78 lakh hectare as against 107 lakh hectare during the same period of last year. However, the sown area of coarse cereals is about 8 lakh hectare more than sown area of last year.
