The Election Commission of India, ECI today observed that the announcement of Direct Cash Transfer scheme could have been avoided by the Centre ahead of polls in Gujarat. The ECI also asked the government to defer the implementation of the scheme in four districts of Gujarat and two in Himachal Pradesh till the election process is over. The Commission had earlier asked the government to file its reply on an objection raised by BJP before the Commission.The Commission was of the view that the government should have maintained letter and sprit of the model code of conduct.
