Defence Secretary to pay homage at IPKF memorial in Colombo

Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar who is on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries, will today pay homage at the IPKF memorial in Colombo. The memorial has been built for the Indian peacekeepers, who laid their lives to protect the territorial integrity of the country during the Sri Lankan Civil War in the 1980s.Mr Kumar is also expected to call on the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today. Defence Secretary will visit the holy town of Anuradhapura, which is also an important military base in Sri Lanka later in the afternoon.Defence Secretary, heading a seven-member delegation, arrived in the island nation on Monday and met the Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister GL Peires. He held important discussions on defence related issues between the two countries with his Sri Lankan counterpart Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
