Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has called upon the countrymen to visit National Memorial Cellular Jail Port Blair at least once in the life and pay homage to freedom fighters who sacrificed their life in this jail.<br/> <br/>Mr. Parrikar was addressing the function held in cellular jail premises, organised under the Government's programme- 'Sattar saal Azadi Zara yaad karo kurbani'. He said that Cellular Jail is a pilgrimage for the people of the country.<br/><br/>The Minister said that the freedom of a country can only sustain when its generations remember the sacrifices of their freedom fighters. Mr. Manohar Parrikar told that Andaman and Nicobar has now become the eastern coastal boundary of the country and government of India is cautious for the security and making all efforts for sustainable development of these Islands. <br/><br/>After reaching the Port Blair in the morning mr. Parrikar participated in motor-bike rally from Veer Sarvarkar International Airport to cellular jail. He paid floral tribute on the martyrs memorial.<br/><br/>He also visited the cell where Veer Savarkar spent ten years of his imprisonment. Later the Defence Minister visited Andaman Nicobar Command Headquarter and reviewed the security aspects of the islands with commander- in- chief of the command.
