Defence Minister re-iterates need of transparency & zero tolerance to corruption in defence deals

The Defence Minister has re-iterated the need of transparency and zero tolerance to corruption in defence deals. Emphasing the need for modernisation of armed forces A.K. Antony said that government will provide all help to achieve the objective. He was addressing army commanders at the concluding ceremony of the five day meet in New Delhi on Friday.Antony said that changes in the Defence Procurement Procedure will help in realizing the full potential of Public – Private Partnership and leverage the advantages in the fields of research and development and manufacturing. Considering terrorism as the biggest threat, he emphasized the need for ensuring peace and stability with all nations including neighbours. He also complimented the Army and the Air force for their timely assistance provided during the Leh Cloud Burst.During the course of the conference, the commanders reviewed the prevailing security situation, emerging challenges and also the operational preparedness. Issues pertaining to operational logistics to include logistic infrastructure development were also discussed.The conference was chaired by Chief of the Army Staff General VK Singh.
