Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated and hoisted highest National Flag at Ranchi today

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today hoisted the largest Tricolour in the country atop the tallest pole at Pahari Mandir in Ranchi on the occasion of birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The flag is 66 feet in height, 99 feet in width and it is hoisted on a 293 feet tall pole.<br/><br/>AIR Ranchi correspondent reports local history has that this place on hill was also one on many, used by the British to hang freedom fighters from Ranchi and nearby areas, and soon after India got independence, National flag was hoisted here. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Raghuwar Das said that this tallest National flag of the world has given special identity to Jharkhand. Many important dignitaries, along with large number of people, were also present at the occasion.<br/><br/>The National flag, weighing 80 kg, will remain hoisted 24-hours from today onward, as twenty sodium vapour lights will illuminate it during night.<br/><br/>Until now Faridabad had the tallest National flag at the height of 246 feet.<br/><br/>Defence Minister also laid foundation stone online of a proposed Jharkhand Shakti Defence University at adjoining district of Ranchi-Khunti. Jharkhand is the third state in the country, which will have such University.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated and hoisted the highest National Flag at Pahari Mandir of Ranchi today on the occasion of birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. AIR Ranchi correspondent reports local history has that this place on hill was also one on many, used by the British to hang freedom fighters from Ranchi and nearby area – and as soon as India had got Independence, National Flag was hoisted here. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that it is matter of pride to unfurl the highest National Flag here today. State Chief Minister Raghuwar Das said that this biggest National Flag of the world has given special identity to Jharkhand. Many other important dignitaries, along with large number of people were also present on the occasion. The National Flag is be 493 feet high from the ground and the height of pole on the hill is 293 feet. AIR Ranchi correspondent reports that the National Flag, weighing 80 kg, will remain hoisted 24- hours from today's onward as twenty sodium vapour lights will illuminate it during night.<br/><br/>Until now Fardibad had highest National Flag at the height of 246 feet.<br/><br/>After that, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar along with Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Raghuwar Das and many other important dignitaries went to nearby Morahabadi Stadium ground of Ranchi where a public gathering greeted them. AIR correspondent reports that entire stadium wore a festive look and National tri-colour was visible everywhere. Students of Sarla Birla School played welcome band and cultural items were also presented by local artists. The entire event, right from the Pahari Mandir flag hoisting, were projected on many large screens live for people to see.<br/><br/>Defence Minister also laid foundation stone online of a proposed Jharkhand Shakti Defense University at adjoining district of Ranchi-Khunti. Jharkhand is the third state in the country, which will have such University.<br/><br/>Many voluntary organizations, like Sarna Samiti, distributed sweets and National flags to the common people at important places of Ranchi, like the Albert Ekka Chowk.<br/><br/>Defence Minister, who had arrived Ranchi today morning, has now left for the Birsa Munda Airport from where he will go back to Delhi.
