Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that the Government would extend all support for modernisation of the Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd (MIDHANI) to enable it to retain leadership in cutting edge technologies of material processing. The minister has laid foundation stone for expansion programme of MIDHANI in Hyderabad today at its campus. Speaking on the occasion, he said the organisation should aim for developing into a world class organisation as its products have been critical for the strategic self-reliance. Mr Antony has further said the country looks up to the Mini Ratna for critical materials support to many programmes including manufacturing fighter aircraft, space programmes and nuclear power generation. Later speaking to reporters, he has ruled out any kind of breaking defence ties with China. Responding to a question, he said there may be small problems here and there but the broader approach of defence ties would not be affected. Stressing the need for a strong defence industry base in the country, the minister has said public sector should be encouraged as it is the backbone for the country. He said private sector also should be supported as the public sector alone can not fulfill the needs.
