Defence Minister launches scathing attack on Congress party's top leadership in Agusta chopper deal

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party's top leadership in the Agusta Westland VVIP chopper scam.

In an interview to a private news channel published last evening, he said the Agusta Scam reflects same hierarchy as the Bofors scam of 1980s.

Mr. Parrikar said, a deal of this nature could not have been swung by former Air Force chief S P Tyagi alone. He said, his predecessor AK Antony's hands were tied and he was not allowed to function.

Pointing out that the price of helicopters was increased by at least 70 per cent, the Minister said, there must be a strong hand behind the deal. However, he did not reveal any name saying he did not want to influence the ongoing investigation.

Holding Congress morally and criminally responsible for the scam, Mr. Parrikar said, the party is so scared that they walked away and didn't even dare to stop the proceedings in Parliament.
