Defence deal, other pacts to be signed during PM's visit to US

Several agreements including in the field of defence are expected to be signed during Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's visit to the United States. He is now on the way to Washington. Dr. Singh will hold talks with the US president tomorrow on a host of issues including trade and investment, civil nuclear cooperation and counter-terrorism.

Terrorism and continuous support to them from across the border are high on the Prime Minister's agenda for talks with the US President. Prime Minister will hold talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday. White House has welcomed the proposed talks between New Delhi and Islamabad describing them good for both the countries and the region.

Dr. Singh is likely convey President Obama India's concerns over the proposed changes in US visa norms which would affect highly-skilled IT professionals from India.

On the sidelines of UNGA, . Dr. Singh will also hold talks with leaders of Bangladesh and Nepal and is scheduled to address UN General Assembly on Saturday.

Indian Ambassador to the United States, Nirupama Rao told AIR in an interview that, both New Delhi and Washington have a very open dialogue on economic partnership. She said Indian economy has maintained certain growth rate even if it has decelerated. Ms. Rao said it is still above the rate of growth of many of the world's leading economy.

US President Barack Obama has said that he looks
forward to meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Washington tomorrow. White House has said the two leaders will discuss a wide range of issues and their shared
objectives.
