Decline in number of pending cases despite huge vacancy: Govt

The government today said pendency of cases in various courts has come down despite huge vacancy. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi on the achievements of his Ministry during two years, Law Minister Sadananda Gowda said around 67 thousand cases were pending in Supreme Court in 2012, which has come down to around fifty nine thousand in 2016. However in High Courts it has come down to around 38 lakh cases from 42 lakh in 2010. <br/><br/>The Minister said, appointment of judges in higher judiciary has been undertaken by NDA government. He said, 86 additional judges were made permanent, 59 new judges were appointed and appointment of another 170 is being processed. Mr Gowda also said, judges sanctioned strength of High Courts has been increased from 906 to one thousand 65 in the last two years.
