Decision to make CAG multi-member body will be collective one by govt: I&B Min

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said that the decision to convert CAG into a multi-member body, will be a collective one by the government. Reacting to media reports attributed for making the top auditor's office a multi-member agency, Mr Tiwari cited the example of converting Election Commission of India into a multi-member Constitutional body, as a successful institution.

Earlier, BJP accused the government of weakening the CAG and said, the party will strongly oppose this move. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that the government wants to weaken this institution as it has exposed many corruption cases, including 2G, coalgate, Commonwealth Games and modernization of Delhi airport.
