The government said it is committed to ensure free movement of traffic through the highways connecting Manipur and the first convoy of trucks will ply on Saturday.<br/><br/>This was stated by an official spokesman after a meeting, the Home Secretary, Mr. G.K. Pillai had with the Chief Secretary of Manipur, D.S. Poonia and the Additional Chief Secretaries of Nagaland, A. Jamir and Toshi Aier in New Delhi last evening. He said, the central government is committed to keep open the NH 39 and NH 53 — the life line of Manipur which were blocked by agitating Naga groups for over two months.<br/><br/>A statement issued after the meeting said, the permanent arrangement of National Highway Protection Force for protecting and keeping open NH-39 would also be put in place. The personnel of the force would be drawn from paramilitary forces.<br/><br/>The Naga Students Federation, NSF, has withdrawn the economic blockade in Nagaland but the blockade by the All Naga Students Association of Manipur, ANSAM, continues. Additional Secretary of Nagaland, A. Jamir told reporters that the Naga Students Federation and the Naga Ho Ho have been requested to use their good offices to impress upon ANSAM to lift the blockade.<br/><br/>The Guwahati High Court had earlier ordered the Centre and the state governments of Manipur and Nagaland that the two National Highways should be kept free from all obstructions.
