Decision on FDI in multi-brand retail taken by consensus: Govt

Centre has made it clear that the decision on FDI in multi brand retail was taken by consensus and no state could decide for another or deprive them if they choose to go ahead with the reform measure. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said in Chennai today that consensus must never be confused with unanimity. He said what we have done is fair democratic and respecting the very spirit of the constitution. He said the government has taken a decision on FDI on multi-brand retail was taken by consensusconsidered view after consulting all stake holders and looking at ground realities.

Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge today assured workers that no exemption in labour laws will be given after proposed FDI in retail as well to companies in special economic zones (SEZs). Addressing the 88th General Council Meeting of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) in Thane city adjacent to Mumbai today Kharge said in the last three years over nine amendments in the interest of workforece welfare were carried out in the labour laws. Maharashtra Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan also addressed the gathering. In his address the CM said that the government permitted FDI in various sectors only to help employment opportunities growth.
