<br/>The United States has said it is up to the leaders of Israel and Palestine to take a call on the direct talks. State Department spokesman, P J Crowley, said that the two sides have to make a decision that after working on the details of the process, they have enough confidence to move into direct negotiations.<br/><br/>Last week after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Barack Obama had said he would like the direct talks to start before September.<br/><br/>Crowly expressed the hope that at some point in time, direct negotiations will be renewed. Special US Envoy for the Middle East, George Mitchell, arrived in the region yesterday.<br/><br/>The spokesman said Mitchell is scheduled to meet Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, and Prime Minister Netanyahu. He will also be meeting Palestinian President and Prime Minister.
