Decision not to summon Modi not final: Nanavati Commission

The Nanavati Commission probing the 2002 riot cases has told the Gujarat high court that its earlier decision not to summon Chief Minister Narendra Modi was "not final". <br/><br/>The Nanavati Commission has clarifed its position while responding to a query by the High court on March 22 on whether the decision not to summon Modi for questioning was tentative or final. The State advocate general Kamal Trivedi produced a letter in the court written by secretary of Nanavati Commission in this regard, yesterday. <br/><br/>Chief justice S. J Mukhopadhaya and Justice Akil Kureshi in their order said that according to Nanavati Commission's reply, its order of September 18, 2009 for not to summon Chief Minister Narendra Modi is not final. In view of the letter submitted by the Nanavati commission, the matter has been adjourned till 17th June. The high court had asked the government pleader to seek the clarification while hearing an appeal by Jan Sangarsh Manch (JSM), an NGO representing some of the victims of the post-Godhra riots. <br/><br/>AIR Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that Chief Minister Narendra Modi has already subjected himself for questioning by the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the Gulburg society riot case.
