Deborah Herold won the gold medal today in the elite women's 40 kilometre competition at Saksham Pedal Delhi, India's Premier Cyclothon. The honour in men's 50 kilometres was bagged by Shreedhar Savanur. Both were criterium races at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
Rounding off the elite men's podium were Manjeet Singh and Krishna Nakaodi. In the women's elite race, Sonali Chanu clinched the Silver, while Swasti Singh bagged the bronze.
To mark the occasion, Cycling Federation of India's secretary general Onkar Singh said that the 2018 edition had a strong field of the best 160 elite cyclists in the country and continues to showcase the quality of competitive cycling in India. He said both Deborah and Savanur are deserving champions in the criterium race.
