In West Bengal, the death toll in the trawler tragedy in the Hooghly River has risen to 69. 28 bodies have been retrieved from the river yesterday. Authorities in South 24 Pargana district said the search for missing persons was suspended last night due to inclement weather and strong currents. In Kolkata, Home Secretary G D Gautama said that 220 people were onboard the trawler as per the missing report submitted by the gram pradhans to the administration. He said, 93 persons were either swam to safety or were rescued. The state government has announced compensation of 2 lakh rupees to each of the families of the deceased.
