In Himachal Pradesh, the death toll has risen to 44 in the two different accidents in Chamba District on Wednesday night. One more body has been recovered from the accident site where the ill fated truck carrying a marriage party fell into a 300-metre deep gorge near Sherpur village about 50 kilometers from district headquarters of Chamba.In the other accident a private vehicle carrying nine people fell into the Ravi river in Bharmour sub-division. All nine bodies have been recovered. The Government has ordered inquiries into the accidents. Chief Minister said that since the victims were travelling in a private truck which is against the law, those responsible for the mishaps shall be brought to book. The Government has also announced an ex-gratia grant of one lakh rupees each to kin of the victims.
