Death toll rises to 25 in AP torrential rains

In Andhra Pradesh, death toll rose to 25 due to torrential rains that are lashing the coastal districts for the past five days. Nearly 6 lakh population has been affected in about 1100 villages in the Coastal and Rayalseem Regions. Over 30 thousand persons are taking shelter in about 100 relief camps. Over 10 thousand houses were severely damaged and 30 thousand houses were submerged. Standing crops in over 6 lakh acres were damaged.At a high level review meeting held in Hyderabad a short while ago, Chief Minister K Rosaiah has directed the district collectors to take all measures to prevent lose of life and property due to heavy rains. Boats are being used to evacuate people from low laying areas in East Godavari and Krishna Districts. The district authorities have been directed to set up Medical Camps to provide emergency health care and prevent outbreak of disease. The Chief Minister has also asked the Disaster Management Response Force and Air Force to be ready for deployment in case of necessity as the Met officials are predicting heavy rains for few more days.
