In Bihar, the death toll in Sunday's train and jeep collision in Madhubani district has risen to 21. Among those killed include 11 women, nine children and driver of the jeep. The collision between the overcrowded jeep and Jay Nagar bound Garib Rath Express took place at an unmanned railway crossing near Mangarpatti Railway halt on Sunday. Railways have ordered an inquiry into the incident. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who is also holding Railway portfolio, has announced an ex gratia of 2 lakh rupees each to the next kin of those killed and 50 thousand rupees each to those seriously injured. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also announced an ex-gratia of 1.5 lakh rupees each to the next kin of those killed in the mishap. AIR correspondent reports, 18 people died on the spot. Three others victims critically injured died during treatment in the hospital. The impact of the accident was so severe that the jeep was dragged about half kilometer before the train stopped. Bodies could be removed from the smashed jeep with much difficulty. Rail traffic on Madhubani- Jaynagar section has been restored after removing wreckages from the track.
