In Punjab, the death toll in the Hoshiarpur hooch tragedy has risen to 18 as three more died today. Quoting the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Hoshiaprur, Jasbir Singh, AIR Jalandhar correspondent reports that bodies of all the victims had been handed over to their kins after the postmortem. According to the Civil Surgeon, more patients are coming in after falling ill due to the consumption of spurious liquor and at present more than a dozen patients are undergoing treatment.
