At least 25 Christian worshippers taken hostage inside a Baghdad church in Iraq, are now known to have died during the operation to free them. More than 50 people have been wounded. Seven Iraqi policemen and five gunmen were also killed. Iraqi officials said the incident began after the militants attacked the nearby Iraqi Stock Exchange. Police chased the insurgents towards the Church and the militants burst in. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen opened fire outside in the streets before coming into the Church. They rounded up the worshippers and gathered them in a hall. Fifteen people were killed inside the Church hall, besides those who were killed in the streets. The militants demanded the release of Al-Qaeda prisoners. When negotiations failed, security forces stormed the Church.
