Death toll reaches to 63 due to cold in UP

In Uttar Pradesh spine chilling cold conditions with dense fog continued to prevail in most parts of the state. Death toll has reached to 63 with 21 fresh casualties due to severe cold in different towns during last 24 hours.<br/><br/>Quoting sources our Lucknow correspondent reports that Four persons died in Allahabad due to intense cold while two each died in Jaunpur, Faizabad, Gorakhpur and Maharajganj due to cold related incidents while one each died of cold in Mahoba, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Kanpur, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich. Besides, different road accidents due to dense fog in state have claimed several lives with two major train mishaps claiming at least 10 lives in Kanpur and Etawah.<br/>According to Meteorological department Shahjahanpur recorded the lowest temperature at 5.0 degrees celsius during the last 24 hours.<br/><br/>The weather office has forecast that the cold conditions would likely to abate over eastern parts of the state during the next two days. Heavy fog also disrupted train services at a number of places, which resulted in several trains running behind the schedule. Uttar Pradesh State Road transport Corporation has canceled its several night bus services due to dense fog. In many districts including Lucknow, Gautam Budhh Nagar NOIDA, Sant Kabir Nagar and Varanasi school colleges have been closed. The state government has directed the officials for distributing blankets to needy people and erecting makeshift shelter houses.
