Death toll mounts to 48 in Uttrakhand road mishap

In Uttarakhand, 48 people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident in Pauri district today. <br />''<br />''AIR correspondent reports that the accident occurred when a Private bus fell into a gorge near Gueengoun village in Dhumakot sub division of the district.<br />''<br />''The mishap took place at around 8.30 am at Gueengoun of Pauri District, when a Private bus on its way to Ramnagar from Dhumakot fell into a gorge. <br />''<br />''Seriously injured four persons were referred to Haldwani, while 8 were admitted in a nearby hospital. Most of the accident victims are local resident. <br />''<br />''The deceased included 22 men, 16 women and 10 children. Rescue operation was carried out jointly by the district administration along with Police, SDRF and locals. <br />''<br />''Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced an ex gratia of Rs. two lakh each to next of the kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured. <br />''<br />''He also directed the magisterial probe into the accident. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. <br />''<br />''Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and Governor K.K Paul have expressed deep grief over the accident.
