Death toll in Varanasi hooch tragedy goes up to 14

In Uttar Pradesh, 14 people have died due to consumption of spurious liquor in Varanasi since yesterday. A Magistrial inquiryhas been ordered into the hooch tragedy.<br/><br/> Accordoing to district adminstartion 24 affected persons are still in hospital. The UP assembly speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar visited the affected rural areas this afternoon. He handed over a cheque of Rs one lakh from the chief minister's relief fund to the families who lost their members in this tragedy. <br/><br/>The hooch tragedy occurred in soyeepur village under cantt police station yesterday when many of the rural people consumed illegally country made liquor bought from a local shop of the same area. Including Soyeepur the other affected villages are Madwa, Hashimpur, and Cholapur and most of the victims belong to these villages. Meanwhile one excise inspector and three constable of excise department have also been suspended. The three police officials’ including one police sub inspector of Lalpur police post had already been suspended in this case.<br/><br/> After this, seven officials have been suspended in this case so far., The Samajwadi party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav has also visited the affected villages and met the victim’s family.<br/><br/> He demanded that at least Rupees 10 should be given to each family who lost their member in this hooch tragedy. He also alleged that the UP government has been working for the benefit of liquor mafias and the people in the power are making money with the help of corrupt officials. However the DIG police DK Thakur said that two persons have been arrested so far and the hunt for main accused is on.
