The flood-related death toll in Thailand has risen to 56 on Tuesday as heavy monsoon rainfall during the last two weeks ravaged nearly half of the provinces of the country. Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said 9,40,000 households in 32 provinces were affected by the ever expanding flood. He said the Public Health Ministry had also received reports that 1,70,000 people had suffered from waterborne diseases. The capital city of Bangkok is bracing itself for the expected peak water level of the Chao Phraya river, which runs through the city. Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said that some communities along Chao Phraya were already inundated by flood water and the situation in the capital city was critical.
