Death toll in scrap blast in Mathura rises to eight

In Uttar Pradesh the toll in the blast at a scrap shop in Mathura city increased to eight with the death of a woman who was admitted at Agra Medical College.<br/><br/>Quoting police sources AIR correspondent reports that two more shells recovered from the spot indicated that they had been used by the army earlier. Police has claimed that the shell is very old and has the design of shells manufactured in 1964 and it would have been used till 1980-84.<br/><br/>The blast took place on Wednesday in the scrap shop in Nai Basti area under Govindnagar police station area when the victims were extricating metal from an army shell. The state government today distributed financial assistance of one lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased and 50,000 rupees to the injured. Ruling BSP MLA Mr. Lekhraj Chaudhary went to the incident area with the officials and gave said amounts.
