Death toll in Pakistan mine blast rises to 24

In Pakistan, officials confirmed the death toll in Sundays' mine blast has risen to 24, with another two dozen still missing. Rescue workers are continuing the search for the trapped miners underground after several gas explosions tore through the coal mine in the south-western province of Baluchistan on Sunday. They said it would be a miracle if any survivors were found.Officials said the mine was poorly ventilated, allowing poisonous gases to accumulate and trigger blasts more than 1,200 metres underground. The site, operated by the state-run Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation, had previously been closed down due to safety concerns.
