In Uttar Pradesh, the government today shifted DIG Saharanpur, D.D Mishra, in the wake of Muzaffarnagar communal conflicts. Mr. Ashok Mutha Jain has replaced him as DIG, Saharanpur range. Besides, ADG Bhavesh Kumar has also been sent to Saharanpur division to assist the local administration in Muzaffarnagar and other neighbouring districts to contain the clashes. Twenty seven people have so far lost their lives in the group clashes.

Talking to AIR, Mr. Kamal Saxena, State Home Secretary said that scores of FIRs have been lodged against perpetrators of violence including some senior leaders of political parties. He also said that now the situation is under control and patrolling and strict vigil by the army and paramilitary forces is going on in the troubled areas of the district.
