The death toll rose to 10 in the Maoist attack at Phulwaria- Korasi village in Bihar's Jamui district. Heavily-armed ultras stormed the village last night and fired indiscriminately, killing 10 villagers and leaving 12 others injured, five of them critically. They also burnt over 30 thatched houses and over one dozen cattle were burnt alive. Senior police officials are camping on the site and a massive combing operation is on to nab the Maoists. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered the state home department's Principal Secretary Amir Subhani and Director General of Police Anand Shankar to visit the spot and submit a report soon. He announced that the state government would provide one lakh rupees compensation to the dependents of each of the deceased, while the injured persons would receive 20,000 or 50,000 rupees depending on the nature of their injury. The injured have been admitted to hospitals at Sikandra and Jamui, where the condition of five persons was stated to be critical.
