In the Kashmir valley, the death toll in the two incidents of avalanches at Dawer Gurez and Sonmarg has risen to 16. In Dewar Gurez 11 soldiers have died while as 3 died in Sonmarg. The Rescue teams are at work and the search for missing soldiers is on at both the places. From Sonamarg, 9 people have been rescued and they are being brought to Srinagar by an army helicopter. In Gurez, the rescue and relief teams have pressed into service snow cutters, bulldozers and other machines to search for the remaining missing soldiers. It may be mentioned that in all 29 soldiers were reportedly in the camp at Gurez when the snow avalanches struck. Eleven bodies have been recovered and ten soldiers rescued so far.
