Death toll in Goa building collapse case rises to 14

Five more bodies have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed under construction building in Cancona, South Goa since morning taking the toll to 14. Four workers were rescued this morning. The exact number of workers buried under the collapsed building is still not known. Army was called in for rescue operation yesterday evening.
Two hundred and fifty personnel including fire brigade and police men are still searching for the survivors.

However there seems to be little hope of survivors under the debris now. In all up to now 28 persons have been brought out of the collapsed building. Condition of 3 workers admitted to Goa Medical College hospital is still serious.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar last night visited the accident site. He promised stringent action against the builder and Town and Country Planning Department officials responsible for the structural fault.

AIR correspondent reports, police have registered a case under culpable homicide against the builder, contractor and the supervisor of Ruby Residency. The six floored under construction building was to have 32 big sized flats. The workers were taking lunch when the building collapsed yesterday at about two in the afternoon. Most of them were on the ground floor of the building on which the upper floors collapsed. This has increased the difficulties in extracting anybody unless all the concrete debris of the upper floors is removed.
