Death toll in clashes between UP police and farmers in Noida rises to 4

In Uttar Pradesh, the situation in violence affected Greater Noida area is under control but tense. The official sources said, with the death of another farmer in hospital the toll has gone up to four. Yesterday two police personnel and one farmer died and several injured in this violent incident. The injured included District magistrate of Gautam Buddh nagar and senior superintendent of police. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a reward of fifty thousand rupees on Kisan Sangarsh Samiti leader Manveer Singh Tewatia who is absconding .The Director General of U.P Police Karamveer Singh has also claimed that Tewatia and Neeraj Malik were mainly responsible for inciting villagers of Bhatta Persaul at the behest of some political parties. Police sources also claimed that Tewatia has several criminal records. The Additional District Magistrate of Gautam Budhnagar S. K. Dwivedi told our Allahabad correspondent today that administration has imposed section 144 in this area to prevent any further violence. He said, more than two dozen agitators have been arrested in this connection. Heavy deployment of police forces have been made in Bhatta Parasual and nearby areas of Dankaur Police station. Senior police officers are also camping in this area. The trouble started on Friday when farmers demanding higher compensation and other benefits for their land being acquired for Yamuna expressway projects. The local villagers took three UP Roadways officials’ hostage. The opposition Congress, BJP and Samajwadi party have blamed the BSP government for yesterday’s violence.
