In China, the death toll in yesterday's massive earthquake in the northwestern province of Qinghai has risen to 589. Xinhua news agency has reported that 10,000 people were injured when the trembler measuring 7.1 on Richter scale hit early yesterday.In Jiegu township, where more than 85 per cent of the houses collapsed, thousands still lay buried under flattened buildings, as soldiers and civilians joined efforts to save lives.
