Death toll in Chennai building collapse rises to 60

In Chennai, death toll in the collapse of an under-construction 11 storeyed building near suburban Porur mounted to 60. Talking to reporters in Chennai relief commissioner Mr Shreedhar said that the rescue operations are still on. He said that 27 persons have been rescued alive so far and are being treated at a private hospital in Chennai. The death toll is likely to increase further as the teams are nearing the ground and basement.

Meanwhile Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha ordered one-man probe commission headed by a former-judge. The commission is appointed to probe reasons behind the collapse, fix blame on those accountable and recommend steps to prevent such incidents. The state government will take action on the report.
