Death toll in Bihar encounter mounts to seven

With the recovery of two more bodies the death toll in the fierce gun battle between Maoists and security forces in Lakhisarai district of Bihar has mounted to seven. The Director General of Police Neelmani told AIR that and an officer in-charge of Kawaiya police outpost of the district and six jawans of Bihar Military Police( BMP) were killed in the encounter with the Maoists . AIR Patna correspondent reports that the encounter took place at hilltop in forest areas near Punadih village under Kajra police station of the district. Maoists also looted an unspecified number of arms and ammunition from the possession of the slain policemen. Seven other security personnel who were injured in the gunbattle are undergoing treatment at Patna Medical college Hospital. A BSF helicopter has been pressed into service to assist district administration in search operation. Additional Security forces have been sent to Lakhisarai from Patna. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who met the injured policemen at hospital announced an ex-gratia payment of ten lakhs to the next of the kin of the deceased and fifty thousand to three lakh to the injured.
